Mom somebody stole my Gucci!
Ever wondered why should you invest some of the hard earned money to make your child wardrobe- fashion kingdom?
Before we open new season in retail, we get the chance to have little sneak peak, of what we will be dealing with on shop floor. For me those trips are like International Child Day. To see garments that haven even left manufacturing belt, and are as raw and fresh as hand picked apple.
Apple itself plays not a small part here. Its been featured on DKNY collection as their logo for quite some time now. Donna Karen herself was inspired by her daughter Gabby to create, pure, fresh garments that will not only be able survive New York chaos, but looked like hand picked, home grown, juicy fruits bursting with colours and textures.
There’s always been controversy as to why should one bother buying children’s designer clothing. We often hear that its such a waste of money, that it will never last, never being worn again after the child grows. And they are right! We cant stop children being children and stop the from playing in muddy puddles. And we definitely cant stop them from growing! But we are not suggesting to buy Donna Karen dress as playground suit either. When i started my current position in Childrens Worldwide Fashion i had not an easy bite to begin with. A lot of people were against our idea of selling such an expensive products, for kids. I feel now like im on a mission to educate people about the origin of the brands, why are they so expensive, and why should you let your child be part of this journey.
I often compare luxury, designer products to organic food. Organic food has been looked after from the start, has been grown to make you feel like you’ve just given yourself boost of energy and healthy bubbles. It also costs more due to the fact how its been made, and looked after. Its not produced on huge scale, rather kept local and maintained to highest standards. When you pick organic product from the shelf you know you are getting something special, you are treating yourself with the purest kind of energy that will benefit you in a lot of ways.
I ve distinguished 3 groups of customers in my store, and each of them has different approach to designer:
*Skeptics: pick up product, look at you with disgrace and make you feel like you ve just committed crime, trying to sell them this €60 tshirt. Will leave the store mumbling some bad words about you, behind your back
* Occasional treaters: buy gifts for friends and family, because they want whats best for family and want to show their friends that they have a lot of spare cash to splash. Those people will buy cheapest item with designer logo and make you wrap it like its been worth €100s.
*Lovers: those customers are the hardest to please but the best to work with. They know what they want, and they know their designs. Very particular about fabrics, cuts and colours, will make your hair stand up if you dont happen to know where was the cotton grown, that made that shirt. But they are also appreciative of design art, and work put into it.
Just like organic food its possible not on everybody’s everyday shopping list, designer items are not the one we buy because we need them. We WANT them because we want to be part of something special. Part of the better, more creative part of the world. We want to feel like we paid for something because its been tailored to tickle only the finest taste buds.
And as for children and design outfits? Yes they will stain it (but God only knows how many stain vanishing products we have on the market now), yes they will make holes ( distressed denim has been in style for a while, and some will spend hours making holes in newly bought jeans) and yes they will grow out of it ( but dont we have friends, family who will not only appreciate second hand Boss but will also put us on priority list for Xmas cards. And who knows maybe you will need again some day:) )
And im not even going to mention that a lot of adults – including myself have the petite ability to fit into some teenage sizes..DKNY teen dress at the price of DKNY adult scarf? Yes please!
We are all big foodies.Cant make decision without being fed before:-)

6 years ago i finished my studies and came over to Dublin to begin something new. Adventure maybe? Met so many amazing people, seen a lot of inspiring places, ate more chips with vinegar that should be allowed!
Im fashion manager, fashion follower, fashion lover. I buy shoes like i buy fresh bread.
But most importantly i enjoy recreating my family recipes.
When i was little girl my mum would always tell that kitchen is her kingdom where she can be princess. I envied her a lot and wanted to be princess on my own, so i assisted her among boiling pots and pans whenever i could, observing closely as she turns simple beans and tomatoes into the most amazing dishes.
Now i have my own kingdom with pots and pans, where I can be princess om my own.
Just not looking for frog to turn him into prince, but rather into some tasty frogs legs:-)
